The Token Went Quiet

About eight percent of your push sends come back as unregistered (HTTP 410 from APNs, an UNREGISTERED error from FCM). What does that response mean, and what should the sender do with that token?

A

The user switched notifications off in system settings, so the token stays valid and only the preference flag should change

B

The token is permanently invalid, usually an uninstall or a rotation, so the record should be deleted rather than retried

C

The payload exceeded the provider's size limit for a single message, so the body should be trimmed and that same token retried

D

The sender is over its rate limit for this connection, so it should back off and retry the same token after a delay
