Rebuilt On Udp

A mobile team runs HTTP/2 over TLS on TCP. Their users are on cellular links with 1 to 2 percent packet loss and hand off between Wi-Fi and LTE several times per session. They are considering HTTP/3 over QUIC.

Which claim is the actual technical reason to move?

A

The gain is the 0-RTT handshake and nothing else, since QUIC's loss recovery and congestion control are the same algorithms TCP already uses.

B

One lost TCP segment stalls delivery of every multiplexed HTTP/2 stream, because TCP hands bytes up in order. QUIC orders bytes only within a stream, and its connection ID survives the address change.

C

UDP has no acknowledgements or retransmissions, so a lost packet is simply skipped instead of being resent, which is what removes the stall.

D

QUIC puts each stream on its own UDP port, so loss on one port cannot delay another, and the handoff is handled by the operating system's routing table rather than by the transport.
