Bladee's Mean

It's time for the Bladee concert once again! Bladee performs nn songs at his concert. To consider the concert a success, he must successfully sing nn of his songs, say 1,2,…,n1,2,\dots, n . The probability that he fails to sing song ii is pip_i , independent between songs. To calculate the probability PP that his concert is a failure, the probabilities pip_i are all approximated by the arithmetic mean p‾=1n∑i=1npi\overline{p} = \frac{1}{n}\sum_{i=1}^n p_i Let P‾\overline{P} be the approximation for the probability the concert is a failure (P)(P) using p‾\overline{p} . How does P‾\overline{P} compare to PP ?

A

The relationship cannot be determined because AM-GM does not apply to probabilities.

B

P‾≤P\overline{P} \le P, with equality only when all pip_i are equal.

C

P‾≥P\overline{P} \ge P, with equality only when all pip_i are equal.

D

P‾=P\overline{P}=P for all choices of pip_i.
