One Hundred Chances

A user request fans out to 100 shards in parallel and cannot return until every shard has replied. Each shard independently answers in about 1 ms at p50 and 50 ms at p99. Roughly what fraction of user requests will wait at least 50 ms because at least one shard was slow?
